Inspired by you, created ByHand

Our business plan is simple: We work for every client like they’re our only client. Whether you order 30 birthday party invitations or 300 five-piece wedding suites, you get our undivided attention and our promise that you’ll love the end result.

Step 1

Creative Consultation

Ideally clients come for an in-house visit so we can get to know you in person and show you our work. This gives you the chance to see and feel the difference between engraving, letterpress, digital and foil printing processes and compare the texture and weight of our invitation paper stock. This hands-on experience lets you imagine possibilities you hadn’t previously considered. This is also a good time to talk about your budget and which design elements are the most important to you. Once we have a sense of your tastes and personality, we can begin the custom design process.

Step 2

Design Timeline

After discussing the particulars of your invitation, we will give you an estimated price quote and timeline. A 50% deposit is required to begin the design process. This can take up to two weeks depending on the time of year and complexity of your job. We usually reserve at least 3 weeks for printing and assembling. We suggest that you plan to send your invitations six to eight weeks before a wedding and two to four weeks before a less formal occasion. Rush jobs can be offered for an additional cost.

Step 3

Client Approval

A ByHand designer will create a PDF digital proof with watermark and present it in email format. You may find you like it right away. You may want changes. You may want to take the design in a different direction. After hearing your thoughts, refinements are made and sent back to you for a final digital proof approval before sending it to press. No printed samples will be produced due to the extreme cost for rendering one invitation. The remaining balance is due in full before the completed invitations are released to the customer. Cancellations forfeit the initial 50% deposit. Two rounds of edits are included in the original estimate.

We believe that every celebration deserves the same attention to design and detail.
All of our work is custom and our pricing structure includes these important elements:
Design, Printing Process and Paper Stock

LETTERPRESS

Our letterpress invitations are second to none. The work is exceptional and the results are stunning. Letterpress is the process of pressing an inked photopolymer plate into a 100% cotton paper to achieve a recessed impression into the card stock. Each individual color requires a separate plate and ink pass. Letterpress is an absolute art form and the results are breathtaking.
Letterpress printing has no stock weight limit. Should you choose single or double ply paper? Single ply paper is more cost effective and casual, but double ply paper allows for a more luxurious feel and deeper impressions. Most of our letterpress suites are printed on 220# cotton stock.

DIGITAL | FLAT PRINT

Digital laser printing is the most commonly used printing method because it’s fast and affordable and you aren’t limited to the number of colors you can use in one piece. The stock weight is limited to thinner cover stocks but some presses are able to print on a sturdy 130#. We find that duplexing (adhering 2 sheets of the same stock together) is a great substitution for mimicking a thicker weight stock.

FOIL PRESS

The foil press or foil stamping process is similar to letterpress in that color is applied with pressure and heat to the stock by way of a metal copper plate. Foil stamping lays down a solid opaque color and is great for darker or colored papers. Metallic foils have a shiny, lustrous finish with a big visual impact. The process, like letterpress, is a labor-intensive printing method. It compliments and can be added to both digital and letterpress printed designs.

PRICING

Great style should fit any budget. Great design and unparalleled quality are what we offer from start to finish.
